Nortel COMMITTEE NOTES February 22, 2008- Miami

Follow up to the Nortel Round table discussion at NATD Miami February 22, 2008

We wanted to take this opportunity to summarize and share the information we discussed in our Nortel round table meetings. This will give our NATD members that did not attend the chance to comment or share their own thoughts or ideas. We are always looking for new members for our Nortel committee so if you feel you would like to participate please contact one of us.  We are also looking for ideas from you the members on what we should discuss at our future meetings. If you have a thought or idea please let one of us know. Your feedback is an integral part of our committee as we represent all of you in the industry.

Our first topic was the different terminology regarding the phone sets now in the market. We discussed the terms “good as new”, “just like new” refurbished and unused. We wanted to make sure that our customers were aware of these new terms and what it means to all of us. We are putting together a list of terms that will be available to our members.

The second topic was the new e-code authorization vs. paper key codes. The customer now has a choice which way the codes are provided to them. Mark from Black Box and Gloria from Telco Solution III provided us insight on the process and what it takes to become an administrator to access the codes on line.

We also touched our how companies are going green and how we want could advertise our green campaign on the NATD website. We showed the recent flyer that Panaseas put in the NATD booklet showing the steps they are taking to becoming a green supplier. Hans from the Teleswitch in the Netherlands told the group how European companies have been involved in the green campaign for a while now. His comments were a follow up to our recent discussions at our summer meeting in Dublin, Ireland.

The last topic we discussed was how we could communicate to other vendors the companies that are slow paying and/or providing mislabeled products. We thought about having a blog on the NATD website for vendors to discuss problems etc but Bob Boyle from legal commented that it was not ethical and we should file a formal complaint through the process. Some vendors felt they were not comfortable with this since the problems had been resolved through their own separate dialog but wanted to make other companies aware. This discussion will probably remain an open topic for our next meeting.
